US Special Envoy for Afghan Peace Ambassodar Zalmai Khalilzad has been replaced by his deputy, Thomas West. In a tweet, US Secretary of State Antony Bliken shortly confirmed Khalilzad dismissal, “Thank you to Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad for decades of tireless service to the United States. Pleased to welcome Thomas West to the role of Special Representative for Afghanistan”.
It is to be mentioned that after the failure of the Afghan peace process, US politicians were critical of Khalilzad’s role. And from time to time they raised the issue of his dismissal, which was officially occured today.
