U.S. President Joe Biden announced today in an official statement that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire proposed by the United States. The statement confirmed that both sides have accepted the terms of the ceasefire.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a statement confirming the agreement with Hezbollah. In his remarks, Netanyahu outlined three reasons for accepting the ceasefire:
- Countering threats from Iran: “I won’t delve into the details now, but it’s critical to prevent Iranian threats.”
- Rebuilding military readiness: “We need to restore and replenish our military equipment, and this will be done swiftly.”
- Isolating Hamas further: “This agreement aims to cut ties between Hamas and other groups, leaving Hamas even more isolated than it already is.”
Netanyahu added, “The Iranian regime is striving to acquire nuclear weapons. Eliminating this threat is my top priority for Israel’s future security.” He assured residents of northern Israel that they would be able to return to their homes and warned, “If Hezbollah violates this agreement, we will respond decisively.”
Meanwhile, Hezbollah also issued a statement from Lebanon, confirming their acceptance of the ceasefire agreement.
