Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir attended the funeral prayers of three Rangers personnel who were killed during protests organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to demand the release of Imran Khan.
Government officials have blamed the protesters for the deaths, alleging that the Rangers were killed due to the violence perpetrated by the demonstrators. However, PTI has rejected these accusations, sharing a statement from a family member of one of the deceased Rangers. The brother of a slain Ranger told the media that he witnessed his brother being run over by vehicles belonging to the Rangers and police.
The protests, ongoing for the past three days, have led to violent clashes between PTI supporters and security forces. So far, five security personnel and six protesters have been reported dead. The demonstrations, marked by escalating tension and violence, continue as Imran Khan’s supporters declare they will not back down until he is released.
