In his latest order, the Taliban’s supreme leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, instructed officials of Taliban-affiliated educational institutions to prohibit women from pursuing medical education even in private medical institutions, and he has ordered these institutions to shut down. Following this directive, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health announced that no educational institution in the country is permitted to provide medical education to Afghan women and girls.
It is worth noting that after the Taliban leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, took control of Kabul, the doors to higher education for Afghan girls were already closed. Only a limited number of private institutions allowed women to pursue studies in medical fields. However, even this opportunity was terminated today.
This decision has once again sparked heated debates among Afghans on social media. Many are questioning the Taliban leader, asking why he is engaging in such fundamental hostility towards the Afghan people. They argue that no government in the world treats its own people with such animosity.
