Protests have been ongoing for the past seven days in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, during which clashes have erupted between special police forces and demonstrators.
The protests are directed against policies that protesters claim undermine the country’s independence and freedom, bringing Georgia under Russian influence.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his latest remarks, discussed the possibility of imposing sanctions on Georgian authorities. He condemned the actions of the Georgian government, stating:
“It is disgraceful that the Georgian government is forcing its country into Russia’s grip.”
Alongside President Zelensky, the international community has also expressed concern about the situation. The European Union and human rights organizations are urging the Georgian government to address the protesters’ demands peacefully and prevent further violence.
