Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated during a NATO meeting that if Ukraine requires German peacekeeping forces as part of negotiation efforts, Germany would be willing to deploy these forces to monitor a ceasefire.
Baerbock emphasized that such peacekeeping efforts must be tied to a serious and sustainable ceasefire agreement. The mission’s objective would be to ensure security in the region and prevent the continuation of violence.
Some European Union leaders have also expressed support for Germany’s proposal. However, within Germany, certain politicians and citizens remain cautious about the plan. Due to the prolonged war and its economic impacts, the German public harbors significant concerns about the escalation of the conflict.
EU leaders, particularly NATO members, support the potential peacekeeping mission but stress that these efforts must be framed within a clear and effective mechanism to implement the ceasefire.
