Kabul – Suhail Shaheen, the head of the Taliban’s office in Qatar and spokesperson for the group, has confirmed that his daughters are studying at a modern university in Qatar.
These remarks come at a time when the Taliban leadership has banned education for Afghan women inside Afghanistan. Currently, Afghan girls are deprived of education beyond the sixth grade, while the daughters of senior Taliban officials enjoy access to the best educational opportunities abroad.
This situation has sparked strong domestic and international reactions. Critics question why the Taliban facilitate education for their own families but prevent Afghan girls from studying. The Taliban’s policy in this regard has faced severe criticism.
