Sources from Kabul report that today, the Taliban’s acting Minister for Refugees, Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani, was killed in a suicide bombing inside the Ministry of Refugees. According to the source, five of Haqqani’s bodyguards were also killed in the attack.

Anas Haqqani, the nephew of the deceased Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani, confirmed to Reuters that his uncle was killed today in a suicide attack inside the Ministry of Refugees.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed the incident in his latest statement, blaming the attack on “Khawarij” groups, a term the Taliban frequently use to refer to ISIS militants.

It is worth noting that Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani was appointed as the acting Minister for Refugees in the Taliban’s interim government after foreign forces withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021.

According to the U.S. State Department, Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani was a senior leader of the Haqqani Network, which was responsible for numerous attacks during the Taliban’s two-decade-long armed insurgency.

Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani, who managed the refugee crisis in Afghanistan, was also the uncle of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the current Minister of Interior.
