President Salome Zourabichvili has given the ruling party, Georgian Dream, a six-day deadline to announce new parliamentary elections. She made this statement during a speech at an opposition meeting.
Salome Zourabichvili stated in her remarks:
“I am still the President of Georgia and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and I will fulfill my responsibilities during this critical time.”
The President set December 29 as the final deadline for her demand. This date also coincides with the inauguration ceremony of Mikheil Kavialashvili.
The opposition has intensified its pressure on the ruling party to reverse the decision to suspend ties with the European Union, arguing that the move goes against the will and national interests of the Georgian people. The opposition claims that the ruling party is steering the country away from its European integration path, which remains a fundamental aspiration for the Georgian population.
In consideration of the opposition’s stance, President Zourabichvili called on the ruling party to take steps to resolve the political crisis. She stated:
“I am waiting for your response to clarify everything. Tomorrow evening, I will record a full message from the palace.”
