Reports from southeastern Afghanistan’s Paktika province state that Pakistani military jets carried out airstrikes on four locations in the Barmal district last night, resulting in at least 100 casualties.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Kabul Taliban, told AFP news agency that 51 people were killed, and several others were injured in the attacks. He stated: “With great regret, we must confirm that last night, Pakistani military jets bombed four locations in the Barmal district of Paktika province, destroying several homes and killing 51 people, most of whom were women and children, while six others were injured.”
Meanwhile, an official from a local hospital in Paktika told the BBC that 46 injured individuals, mostly women and children, had been brought in from the site of the attack.
On the other hand, social media accounts linked to supporters of the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies have claimed that the airstrikes targeted TTP militants camps. However, other reports suggest that the victims were displaced refugees from Waziristan who had settled in the area.
It is worth noting that such airstrikes by the Pakistani military in Afghanistan have occurred in the past, frequently leading to significant civilian casualties. Despite widespread criticism from international organizations and public condemnation, Pakistan has continued these actions.
