Reports from South Korea state that Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, carrying 181 passengers, veered off the runway and caught fire while making an emergency landing at Muan International Airport today.
According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, at least 28 people have been confirmed dead, with several others injured in the incident.
The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined, but videos shared on social media suggest that one of the plane’s engines collided with a bird mid-air, which may have contributed to the accident.
