Reports from Syria indicate that the German and French foreign ministers arrived to Syria on Friday and held discussions in Damascus with the head of the new interim government, Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Julani.
Germany’s Annalena Baerbock and France’s Jean-Noël Barrot reportedly met with al-Sharaa to discuss the formation of Syria’s new government, international relations, and potential areas of cooperation.
It is noteworthy that this marks the first official visit by high-ranking European Union diplomats to Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government last month.
