Ishaq Dar: Releasing TTP Militants and Opening Borders Was a Major Mistake by Pakistan’s Previous Government!

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, stated in a media briefing today that the previous Pakistani government—seemingly referring to Imran Khan’s administration—made a significant mistake by releasing TTP militants and opening borders. In his remarks, Dar said, “The previous government, under the guise of negotiations and confidence-building measures with militants, released hundreds of dangerous prisoners. Later, some went to Kabul and, in exchange for a mere cup of tea, opened the borders for TTP militants. Consequently, around 40,000 militants entered Pakistan from Afghanistan, which has now caused a deterioration in the country’s security situation.”

Addressing Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan, Dar noted, “Every time I planned to visit Afghanistan, security incidents forced the postponement of my trip. For good relations, it is necessary to create a conducive environment. However, in the current scenario, where the Afghan Taliban support Pakistan’s enemies like TTP while simultaneously seeking good relations, it is impossible to achieve both at the same time.”
