Stockholm – Reports from Sweden indicate that on Tuesday, a gunman opened fire at the Campus Risbergska adult education center in Örebro, killing 11 people and injuring five others.
Stockholm police confirmed the incident, stating that the shooter was also killed during the attack. The Campus Risbergska center, located on the outskirts of Örebro, provides education and vocational training for adults, refugees, migrants, and individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson addressed reporters late Tuesday, saying:
“Today, we witnessed brutal and deadly violence against innocent people. This is the deadliest mass shooting in Sweden’s history.”
He added, “Many questions remain unanswered, but the time will come when we will know what happened, how it was possible, and what motives were behind it. Let us not speculate.”
Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at the Royal Palace and government buildings in honor of the victims.
Police have launched an ongoing investigation and pledged to release further details as they emerge.
