Hamas announced on Monday that it has suspended its prisoner exchange process with Israel, citing repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement. In a statement, Hamas spokesperson Abu Ubaida claimed that Israel has been violating the ceasefire for the past three weeks.
According to Abu Ubaida, “Israel has prevented displaced Palestinians from returning to Gaza and blocked the entry of humanitarian aid. Additionally, Israeli forces have continued their attacks in various parts of the Strip, which is a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.”
Israel Condemns Hamas’ Decision
Israeli officials have strongly condemned Hamas’ announcement, stating that it contradicts the ceasefire agreement. In response to the situation, the Israeli Ministry of Defense has ordered its forces to remain on high alert.
Ceasefire on the Brink of Collapse
The fragile ceasefire, brokered by the United States and Qatar, now faces the risk of collapse. This comes at a critical moment, as U.S. President Donald Trump recently hinted at plans for taking control of Gaza during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington last week.
Regional analysts warn that if the situation continues to escalate, it could lead to a resumption of hostilities, further destabilizing the region.
