Brussels – A wave of support for Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emerged from European leaders after his meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump ended in discord. Leaders from across the continent reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine, emphasizing the need for a just and lasting peace while condemning Russian aggression.
Croatian officials underscored their historical experience, stating, “Only a just peace can last. The Croatian Government stands firm in its belief that Ukraine needs such a peace – one that ensures sovereignty, territorial integrity, and a secure Europe.”
Denmark echoed this sentiment, with a direct message to Zelenskyy: “Denmark proudly stands with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.”
Latvian Prime Minister reinforced solidarity, declaring, “Latvia stands with Ukraine.” Similarly, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, and the European institutions—the European Council, European Commission, and European Parliament—expressed unwavering support.
Spain’s President Pedro Sánchez voiced strong backing, affirming, “Ukraine, Spain stands with you.” Moldova’s President Maia Sandu highlighted the reality of the war, stating, “Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine defends its freedom—and ours. We stand with Ukraine.”
Lithuania’s President declared, “Ukraine, you’ll never walk alone.” Meanwhile, Poland’s Prime Minister reassured, “Dear Zelenskyy, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.”
Austria’s Chancellor condemned Russia’s role in the war, stating, “The Ukrainian people have been courageously defending their country against the Russian aggressor for more than three years. I personally visited the war zone and saw firsthand the sacrifices made. We all want this war to end at last. Russia is the aggressor, and therefore, Europe supports Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.”
Canada Prime Ministers Justin Trudeau blamed Russia for the war and stated “ Russia illegally and unjustifiably invaded Ukraine.
For three years now, Ukrainians have fought with courage and resilience. Their fight for democracy, freedom, and sovereignty is a fight that matters to us all.
Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine and Ukrainians in achieving a just and lasting peace.
The overwhelming support from European leaders highlights the growing divide between the U.S. and its allies on the Ukraine conflict following Trump’s comments suggesting that Zelenskyy is unwilling to negotiate peace as long as the U.S. remains involved. With European nations reinforcing their commitment to Ukraine, the geopolitical landscape remains tense as the war continues.
