Washington, D.C. – Former CIA officer Sarah Adams @TPASarah has made explosive claims that the U.S. government continues to fund and share intelligence with the Taliban, despite the group holding an American hostage.

In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Adams questioned why Washington maintains ties with the Taliban while Afghan-American businessman Mahmood Shah Habibi remains in captivity.

“Our government is still funding the Taliban. Still sharing intelligence with them. So why is our ‘ally’ still holding American hostages? Free Mahmood Shah Habibi! End support to the Taliban!” Adams wrote.

Her statement comes as the FBI renews its efforts to locate Mahmood Shah Habibi, who disappeared in August 2022. According to the FBI, Habibi—a contractor for the Asia Consultancy Group, a Kabul-based telecommunications company—was abducted along with his driver near his home in Kabul. Reports indicate he was taken by Taliban security forces along with 29 other employees of the firm. While most have since been freed, Habibi and another individual remain missing.

Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of Habibi’s whereabouts to contact the FBI, the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

While the U.S. government has yet to respond to Adams’ claims, pressure is mounting for Washington to take a stronger stance in securing Habibi’s freedom.

This developing story raises serious questions about U.S. foreign policy in Afghanistan and the fate of Americans still unaccounted for in the region.
