Washington, D.C. – U.S. warships intercepted and shot down nearly a dozen Houthi drones Ballistic and Cruise Missiles aimed at the USS Harry S. Truman strike group following last night’s airstrikes, a senior defense official confirmed.
According to the official, the drones , 18 ballistic and cruise missiles were neutralized “well before” they could pose a serious threat to the carrier strike group operating in the region.
The attempted drone attack comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. Just hours before, the U.S. launched a series of airstrikes against Houthi positions, targeting military infrastructure in response to continued attacks on U.S. and allied vessels in the Red Sea.
The USS Harry S. Truman and its accompanying warships have been deployed to safeguard international shipping lanes in the wake of repeated Houthi missile and drone strikes.
While no injuries or damage were reported in this latest engagement, the situation remains volatile as U.S. forces brace for potential further retaliation from the Houthis. Officials have reiterated that the U.S. will continue to take defensive actions to protect its assets and ensure the security of maritime routes in the region.
This development underscores the growing confrontation between Washington and the Houthis, with analysts warning that further escalations could draw the U.S. deeper into the conflict in Yemen.
