Afghanistan – The Torkham crossing gate reopened today for visa-holding travelers and emergency patients after being closed for nearly a month.

Taliban sources told the media that since 8:30 AM local time, travelers have been allowed to cross the gate following security screening.

Torkham Gate was closed on February 21 by Pakistani border forces. At the time, Pakistani officials stated that the closure was a response to the Taliban’s construction of a security post near the border. The closure left thousands of travelers and trade convoys stranded on both sides.

Torkham is considered a key crossing point for travel and trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
