ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday, focusing on mutual concerns, including the situation in Afghanistan and counter-terrorism cooperation.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Secretary Rubio appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism and expressed the United States’ desire to further strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism initiatives.
The two leaders also discussed the situation in Afghanistan, agreeing on the urgent need to resolve the issue of US military equipment left behind after the American withdrawal. This conversation comes amid recent remarks by US President Donald J. Trump, who expressed his desire for the return of weapons and military equipment currently under Taliban control.
Pakistan has also blamed the Afghan Taliban for allowing advanced US-made weapons to fall into the hands of anti-Pakistan militant groups operating in the region. However, Taliban have rejected both , Pakistan’s claims and President Trump’s demands regarding the retrieval of the equipment.
