QUETTA – At least two people were killed and seven others injured in two separate violent incidents in Baluchistan on Saturday, highlighting the region’s ongoing security challenges.
In the provincial capital, Quetta, a powerful bomb explosion struck the Mangalha area, killing prominent tribal elder Abdul Salam Bazai and his brother Abdul Nafi Bazai. The blast also injured six other individuals who were present at the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, but no group has yet claimed responsibility.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the border town of Chaman, unidentified gunmen targeted local religious leader Maulana Hafiz Gul, a senior member of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI). He sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition remains critical, according to medical sources.
These attacks come just a day after a deadly assault in Surab city, where armed militants killed Hidayatullah Baloch, the Deputy Commissioner of the district. The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns over a possible uptick in targeted violence across Balochistan.
