The Taliban government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan has expressed regret over the decision by the Kingdom of Norway to reduce diplomatic relations.
The Norwegian government made this decision in response to the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on Afghan women’s right to education and work. Norwegian officials have stated that violations of Afghan women’s fundamental rights contradict international principles and values. Consequently, they have decided not to recognize the Taliban government and to downgrade their level of diplomatic relations.
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the Taliban Foreign Ministry spokesperson, stated in a recent statement that this decision could negatively affect the expansion of bilateral relations. He emphasized that such decisions should not be linked to the internal affairs of other countries.
According to Balkhi, diplomatic relations are effective when they create a foundation for mutual understanding and respect, even if the two sides have differing views and positions.
The Norwegian government has urged the Taliban to reconsider their policies against Afghan women and restore their rights to education and work.
