U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), in its latest statement, announced that on December 16, its air forces carried out targeted airstrikes on a key command and coordination facility operated by Iran-backed Houthi forces in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.
The statement noted that the facility served as a critical hub for Houthi operations, where attacks against U.S. naval forces and commercial ships in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden were planned and coordinated.
CENTCOM emphasized that these strikes were conducted to ensure the safety of U.S. and coalition forces, regional partners, and international maritime navigation.
It is worth mentioning that these strikes come at a time when Houthi attacks on international shipping routes have significantly increased, posing a serious security threat near the Red Sea.
