Hungary to Ratify Sweden and Finland’s NATO Membership by Year-End!

by Hewad Press

Hungary is set to ratify Sweden’s and Finland’s applications to join NATO by the end of the year, according to Gergely Gulyás, the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office. The announcement was reported by Politico and marks a significant development in the expansion of the military alliance.

Hungary, along with Türkiye, is among the last of NATO’s 31 member states yet to approve the accession of the two Nordic countries. Both nations applied for membership in response to heightened security concerns following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.

While Finland’s membership was ratified earlier in 2023, Sweden’s accession has faced delays due to disagreements between the remaining member states. With Gulyás’s announcement, Sweden’s bid could soon see resolution, further solidifying NATO’s influence in northern Europe.

Hungary’s decision to move forward underscores growing support for NATO enlargement and the alliance’s role in fostering regional security amidst rising global tensions.
