Kabul, Afghanistan – A Georgia man detained by Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers since December 2022 is on his way back to the United States after negotiations led by the Trump administration secured his release, a diplomatic source confirmed to The Post.
George Glezmann, 65, was reportedly kidnapped by the Taliban while visiting Afghanistan. His freedom was achieved through diplomatic efforts involving Trump’s special hostage envoy Adam Boehler, along with Taliban and Qatari officials.
According to sources, Boehler, along with former U.S. envoy to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, met with Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman and senior adviser to the prime minister, Majed Al Ansari, as well as Afghanistan’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to finalize the agreement for Glezmann’s release on Thursday.
The successful negotiations highlight ongoing diplomatic engagements between U.S. officials and the Taliban, with Qatar playing a key mediating role. Glezmann’s release marks a significant achievement for the Trump administration’s approach to handling hostage situations abroad.
